Features and aims of the course<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The degree course in Midwifery has been designed for the acquisition of wide and thorough knowledge and practical skills.<\/p>\n

On successful completion of this three-year course, graduates will have the academic requirements needed to register and work as licensed midwives.<\/p>\n

Practical sessions and placements (about 2000 hours) are particularly important as integral and qualifying part of the course. \n [vc_column_text css=””]The Bachelor’s Degree in Midwifery includes various types of educational activities: theoretical frontal lectures, elective courses, and professional training (practical internship and professional laboratory). Lectures and practical exercises take place in person at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, while the practical internship is carried out within the facilities of the Regional Health System under the supervision of qualified professionals in the field. The internship is preceded by laboratory activities held at the Faculty of Medicine, utilizing educational materials and childbirth simulators, under the guidance of midwifery professionals who are fully dedicated to teaching and tutoring activities.<\/p>\n

The curriculum follows a gradual learning approach: starting with basic disciplines (such as biochemistry and biology, histology, anatomy, human and reproductive physiology, hygiene, and microbiology), students progress to the study of pregnancy physiology and pathology, childbirth assistance, and neonatal care, with a particular focus on professional skills and autonomy (professionalizing courses taught by midwifery instructors) as well as specialized disciplines (urology, endocrinology, psychiatry, pediatrics and pediatric surgery, pharmacology, etc.). Subsequently, students study subjects related to the management of obstetric-gynecological-neonatal emergencies (medical-surgical emergencies, anesthesiology, and neonatal resuscitation).<\/p>\n

The curriculum also includes courses in computer science and information processing, English, and medical statistics, as well as legal disciplines related to regulatory and ethical aspects of the profession and employment access (such as forensic medicine and labor law).<\/p>\n

To promote international mobility for students and graduates and to facilitate their integration into healthcare facilities, some compulsory courses within the program are offered in English. Additionally, to enhance students’ knowledge of the specialized language used in the healthcare profession, including specific technical-disciplinary terminology, a Scientific English course is provided, enabling students to acquire language skills equivalent to the B2 level.[\/vc_column_text] <\/div>\n<\/div>

\n [vc_column_text]Graduates from this course are the main providers of care for childbearing women throughout pregnancy, labour and the first few weeks after the birth.<\/p>\n

They give preventive information, instructions for self-care and in cooperation with gynaecologists can identify potentially pathological situations that need medical intervention, and to apply, where needed, the adequate emergency measures.[\/vc_column_text] <\/div>\n<\/div>

\n [vc_column_text css=””]More than one-third of the training activities are carried out in a practical format (clinical internship and preclinical laboratories).<\/p>\n

In the preclinical laboratory, students acquire practical and behavioral skills essential for the clinical internship through guided simulations and the use of educational tools.<\/p>\n

The internship takes place in hospital and outpatient facilities, alongside patients and under the supervision of experienced professionals. Since this is a professionalizing degree, graduates are qualified to practice their profession immediately after obtaining their degree (subject to registration with the professional board).[\/vc_column_text] <\/div>\n<\/div>
