Features and aims of the course

The Course belongs to the Department of Information Engineering. The aim of the Course is to provide students with a solid interdisciplinary culture based on the integration of knowledge and skills in the technical-biological field. This interdisciplinarity is necessary so that the biomedical engineer can find technological solutions typical of engineering to problems of a medical/biological nature. The course focuses mainly, but not exclusively, on the study of the motor, cardiac, metabolic and respiratory physiological systems. Knowledge is acquired by the student through lectures and guided exercises, also supported by laboratory activities.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Initially, basic subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science and Chemistry are studied. Subsequently, characterizing technological subjects are addressed such as:

  • Bioengineering
  • Automatics
  • Telecommunications
  • Electronics

To these, other related subjects are added such as Materials, Measurements, Medicine and Biology, some of which are chosen by the student.

YOUR FUTURE CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

The three-year bachelor degree in Biomedical Engineering is preparatory to the master’s degree, and almost all students continue their studies. However, the main employment areas for those who stop at the three-year course are:

  • biomedical engineering services (or clinical engineering/biomedical technologies) in public and private healthcare facilities;
  • medical IT software houses;
  • biomedical equipment production and marketing industry;
  • pharmaceutical industry.

STRENGTHS OF THE COURSE

The person as a center of interest for biomedical engineering. Therefore, the human relationship between professors and students is particularly cared for, despite their large number. Maximum availability of tutors to support them in their path.

In a young and dynamic context, in which effort is put in sensitizing and inspiring the student as much as possible about the social problems to which biomedical engineering provides technical solutions, the solid multidisciplinary training in basic bioengineering subjects will allow the student to specialize, during the master’s degree, in any sector of bioengineering.
