The knowledge assessment test is a non-selective test for students enrolling in a three-year degree programme with open admission at Università Politecnica delle Marche. It does not prevent enrolment, but is designed to assess students’ initial knowledge of the core subjects relevant to their chosen degree programme. It helps identify any gaps in their basic knowledge, enabling them to begin their university studies with greater awareness and confidence. The test consists of multiple-choice questions and can be retaken during the first year of study. In the event of knowledge gaps, Additional Educational Requirements (OFA) are assigned and must be fulfilled by the end of the first year of study. The University also gives prospective students the opportunity to take the knowledge assessment test during orientation days (Open Days), before enrolment.
AGRICULTURE
GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE TEST
For the following three-year degree programmes with open admission:

THE TEST IS NOT SELECTIVE: it is an orientation tool designed to help prospective students choose the most suitable degree programme.
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DO NOT CARRY OUT OR PASS THE TEST?
You can still enrol, but you will be given OFAs.
OFAs are Additional Education Obligations that must be cleared with Maths lessons, at the end of which there is an examination (oral exam/test) as per calendar published on the site of Department of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences.
HOW DOES THE TEST TAKE PLACE?
The knowledge test takes place on site on an IT platform. It is made of 40 multiple-choice questions, with only a correct answer among the five indicated, with a time limit of 60 minutes, on the following subjects:
- Mathematics and basic mathematical language (10 points max)
- Physics (10 points max)
- Chemistry (10 points max)
- Biology (10 points max)
You will be given 1 point for every correct answer, 0 (zero) for every incorrect or not given answer.
If you score less than 5 points in Mathematics, you will be given an OFA.

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DO NOT CARRY OUT OR PASS THE TEST?
You can still enrol, but you will be given OFAs.
OFAs are Additional Education Obligations that must be cleared by repeating the test with a positive outcome in the subsequent sessions.
After doing the first test, additional activities will be scheduled regarding Mathematics, Modern and Contemporary History and general knowledge.
Clearing the OFA is necessary to take the exams of the subjects relevant to the test: general mathematics, political economy I and economic history.
HOW DOES THE TEST TAKE PLACE?
The knowledge test takes place online on an IT platform. It is made of 20 multiple-choice questions, with a time limit of 30 minutes, on the following subjects:
- General knowledge (5 points max)
- Logic (5 points max)
- Mathematics (5 points max)
- Modern and contemporary history (5 points max)
You will be given 1 point for every correct answer, 0 (zero) for every incorrect or not given answer.
The test is considered passed with 8 correct answers, of which at least one for each subject area.

The courses with restricted access are:
- BUILDING ENGINEERING-ARCHITECTURE (single cycle master’s degree);
- TECHNIQUES FOR TERRITORIAL DESIGN AND MANAGEMENT (professional training);
- INDUSTRIAL AND INFORMATION ENGINEERING (professional training);
These courses imply selective tests (keep an eye on public notices).
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DO NOT TAKE OR DO NOT PASS THE TEST?
THE TEST IS NOT SELECTIVE: it is an orientation tool designed to help you choose the most suitable degree programme.
If you do not take the test or do not pass it, Additional Educational Requirements (OFA) will be assigned and must be fulfilled by 9 August 2026, according to the procedures established by the Faculty of Engineering. Failure to fulfil the OFA will result in the requirement to repeat the first year of the degree programme.
The OFA can be fulfilled in one of the following ways:
- Passing the Engineering OFA remedial test organised by the Faculty;
- Passing a mathematics-related examination (SSD from MAT/01 to MAT/09).
For all prospective students, the Faculty organises Introductory Courses, which take place two weeks before the start of classes according to a schedule published on the Faculty of Engineering’s homepage.
Given their role in supporting students in developing the required knowledge, and because they are offered only on this occasion before the start of classes, THESE COURSES ARE RECOMMENDED FOR ALL STUDENTS, regardless of whether they have taken the test.
HOW DOES THE TEST TAKE PLACE?
The knowledge test takes place online on an IT platform. It is made of 30 multiple-choice questions, with a time limit of 75 minutes, on the following subjects:
- Reading comprehension (5 points max)
- Logic reasoning (5 points max)
- Elementary Mathematics (15 points max)
- Basics of Physics (5 points max)
You will be given 1 point for every correct answer, 0 (zero) for every incorrect answer and 0.25 points for every not given answer.
The test is considered passed by scoring 50% of the maximum points (15/30).
The required knowledge of Mathematics and Physics are in line with the program of second to last year of high school.

Medicine and Surgery
GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE TEST
For the following three-year degree programme with open admission:
- Sport Sciences for Health and Active Ageing (Healthy Ageing)
an adequate level of prior knowledge is required and is assessed through a specific non-selective knowledge assessment test.
HOW DOES THE TEST WORK?
The test is administered twice during the academic year: by December and by April, and covers three core subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
Each quiz lasts 15 minutes and consists of 8 multiple-choice questions, with four answer options for each question. Only one answer can be selected for each question, and there is always one correct answer. Each correct answer is worth 1 point, while incorrect or unanswered questions are worth 0 points, with no penalty for incorrect answers.
To pass the test and be declared eligible, candidates must score at least 4 points in each quiz.
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DO NOT PASS THE TEST?
Students who do not pass the test will have one or more OFA – Additional Educational Requirements recorded in their electronic student record (Esse3).
For each assigned requirement (e.g. Chemistry OFA), students will be required to attend the online remedial course (e-learning) provided by the University.
WHEN MUST THE REMEDIAL COURSE BE COMPLETED?
The remedial course must be completed:
- by the February examination session of the academic year in which the student enrols, for students who enrol regularly;
- by the May examination session, for students who enrol following failure to pass the filter semester.
⚠️ Attendance of the OFA course is mandatory in order to sit the first-year examinations.
The test is not required for:
Prospective students who:
- come from degree programmes established under regulations predating Ministerial Decree No. 270/2004;
- already hold another academic qualification, including one obtained abroad;
- are transferring from a degree programme at this University or from another university, having already passed curricular examinations in Biology, Physics and Chemistry;
- have already successfully passed the knowledge assessment test (Biology, Physics and Chemistry) in the current or previous academic years and hold the relevant certification;
- have successfully passed all the examinations of the filter semester;
- have passed the admission test for the Health Professions programmes or the IMAT, without any OFA in Biology, Chemistry or Physics, and hold the relevant certification.
Sciences
GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE TEST
For the three-year degree programmes with open admission:
- Biological Sciences
- Environmental Sciences and Civil Protection*
you are expected to have an adequate level of prior knowledge, which is assessed through a specific subject-specific knowledge assessment test, taken by the student as a self-assessment tool.
* For the Environmental Sciences and Civil Protection degree programme, a minimum B2 level of English proficiency is required. Students who do not hold a B2-level language certificate must take an English language proficiency test.
THE TEST IS NOT SELECTIVE: it is a self-assessment tool designed to help you choose the most suitable degree programme.

You can still enrol, the auto-evaluation test is only an orientation instrument.
However, you will be gives OFAS, Additional Education Obligations, that must be cleared within the first year of study.

HOW DOES THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEST WORK?
The English language proficiency test consists of 6 (six) multiple-choice questions, with only one correct answer among the five options provided.
The assessment criteria for both tests are as follows:
- 1 point for each correct answer;
- 0 (zero) points for each unanswered or incorrect answer.
Candidates who score fewer than 2 correct answers out of 6 in the English language proficiency test will be assigned an Additional Educational Requirement (OFA) in English, which must be fulfilled during the first year of the degree programme (by 10 August).
