Features and aims of the course
The aim of the course is to train graduate students to perform technical tasks in the wide panorama of the agri-food supply chain and in the production and service businesses related to it. Graduate students in Food Science and Technologies are competent in identifying the chemical, physical, and biological factors that might affect food safety and preservation; in implementing strategies to ensure a safe consumption of food and the extension of its shelf-life; in the operations and processes typical of the food industry; in the methods adopted in the food and in raw materials quality and safety assurance auditing.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The course is designed to provide students with a sound basic knowledge in the fields of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology. Professional-oriented subjects will provide students with knowledge in the typical operations of the agri-food industry, in preservatives of plant and animal origin; in microbiological aspects applied to food processing.
YOUR FUTURE CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
The professional activity can be performed especially within:
- enterprises dealing in the fields production, processing, storage, distribution of food and beverages, ingredients, additives, and food flavourings
- public and private organizations carrying out activities such as control and certification of food production (authorities performing official food control, associations dealing with protection of typical products, certification bodies and companies operating in the field of quality control)
- public and private laboratories
STRENGTHS OF THE COURSE
The excellent relationship between professors and students facilitates a constant and direct contact with students, the innovative didactic methodology alternates classroom training with e-learning lessons (blended courses) and completes them with laboratory and field activities, as well as with didactic visits.
