The Bachelor’s in Building Engineering aims both at training professionals with technical skills necessary to operate as middle management in the building sector and related production processes, as well as training graduates who can successfully pursue a Masters’ degree program.
During the first year, the course provides solid grounding in science that will be essential for the acquisition of professional skills in subsequent years. During the second and the third year, students acquire fundamental construction engineering skills, such as:
Graduates will also receive grounding in fields that over the last years have gained increasing strategic importance for construction, such as sustainability and automation. The educational offer is structured in a way that allows students to choose some of the subjects on the basis of their own inclinations. Lastly, the course includes both a traineeship and a final exam, which purposes are to facilitate graduates’ integration into the workplace and increase their level of autonomy.
The Bachelors’ Degree forms future building engineers, who will be able to access the liberal profession after passing the state examination and joining the Professional Register. Graduate students will have the necessary competencies to practice the professional activity in the vast building sector, and will be able to take part in the programming, design, and implementation of organisational and transforming interventions.
The course in Building Engineering is the only Degree course in Italy that provides competencies in the building industry emerging sectors such as eco-design, home automation, digital construction, BIM, and new materials. The Degree in Building Engineering is attested by the Department of Civil and Building Engineering and Architecture (DICEA). The Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research has listed the DICEA among the Departments of excellence. DICEA is also ranked among the first Italian departments for research in the building sector.
The department is composed of four sections, seven laboratories, and one accredited calibration centre equipped with devices to test materials. The course aim is to experiment innovative training paths strongly integrated with leading businesses and international research. Professors and researchers live and interact with students on a day-to-day basis and benefit from a constant cultural and intellectual exchange. Innovative ideas, further developed in cooperation with universities, organisations, foreign businesses and research institutes, are generated and become part of an avantgarde training program.
