Features and aims of the course

The main objective is to train engineers who are able to design and manage works and infrastructures typical of the civil sector (e.g. buildings, roads, airports, harbours, purification plants), and to work in the field of environmental protection regarding natural and anthropogenic risks (air quality control and management, waste characterization and treatment); thus, training engineers capable of contributing to the design and construction process in the civil and environmental engineering sphere.

The final work placement carried out within organizations or companies, or at the University, enables students to tackle labour market topics and acquire both relational and decision-making skills. Civil and Environmental Engineering graduates will be able to find immediate placement on the job market.

The Course is EUR-ACE accredited, which certifies its compliance with high European and international educational standards.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

In addition to fundamental training activities (mathematics, physics, chemistry, and geometry), the following subjects are taught:

  • design
  • topography
  • science of materials
  • hydraulics
  • building science
  • geotechnical engineering
  • building techniques
  • hydraulic constructions
  • roads, railways and airports
  • sanitary-environmental engineering
  • applied geology
  • environmental technical physics.

YOUR FUTURE CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Bachelors can interact with more experienced professionals in the civil and environmental engineering sectors, and find work in:

  • offices run by associated professionals and engineering companies;
  • public sector bodies
  • companies of the civil (e.g. urban and territorial systems) and environmental (e.g. environmental monitoring, waste management) sectors;
  • construction companies;
  • companies manufacturing construction materials and systems;
  • construction site safety (qualification to practice is required).

STRENGTHS OF THE COURSE

The excellent professor-student relationship, the availability of tutors, and well-equipped classrooms make it possible to guide and assist students throughout their studies.

Through laboratories, field activities and visits to work sites and plants, students can get an insight of the of planning, design, construction, monitoring, and management processes that characterize civil and environmental engineering.

Lecturers are part of international research groups of uttermost importance, which gives the most deserving students the opportunity to carry out pre- and post-graduate internships within companies and research centres, both in Italy and abroad.
