Features and aims of the course

 

During this 6-year cycle students will be trained to become empathetic, compassionate and competent physicians. They will learn how to take a person-centered approach to healthcare, considering patients, in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, as individuals with their own unique  needs and characteristics. The course will equip students with the essential knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes to practice medicine competently and professionally. The extensive hands-on experience will stimulate decision-making in clinical practice on using health strategies for preventive, diagnostic, curative and rehabilitative care. The course places great emphasis on the development of good communication skills, which are essential in dealing with patients and their families.

Histology, Anatomy, General Pathology, Physiology, Symptomatology and Clinical Methodology, Microbiology, Medical and Surgical Pathology, Internal Medicine and General Surgery, Pathologic Anatomy, Clinical Gastroenterology and Endocrinology, Cardiovascular Diseases and Geriatrics, Diagnostic Imaging, Infectious Diseases, Pneumology, Medical English, Clinical Medicine, Clinical Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Clinical Oncology, Gender Medicine and Palliative Care.

YOUR FUTURE CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Graduates of the course in Medicine and Surgery will be able to work as physicians in a variety of roles and different clinical, healthcare and biomedical facilities.  Graduates of this course are also eligible for admission to the  Medical Schools of Specialization.

The course prepares graduates to work as general practitioners  – (ATECO-CODE 2.4.1.1.0).

STRENGTHS OF THE COURSE

This degree course has a practical and vocational approach (AFP) from the 1st to the 6th year with a combination of classwork, laboratory activities and extensive hands-on clinical experience. The latter increases as students go through the course.

In order to become registered and licensed physicians, students need to complete a Clinical Placement (TPVES) and pass a national exam.

The course offers Erasmus projects as part of our exchange programmes.

We are presently working on the development of a new Medicine Degree Course which will be delivered in the English language.
